from a school (firewalls)

1.Type the following line into your browser's location box and hit
Enter:
http://www.dyvic.com/pueblo.exe
2. When you see the "File Download" box, select "Save this program to disk" and click "OK."
3. In the "save-as" window, indicate the directory where you want the installer program (pueblo.exe) saved. We recommend that you save the installer program either to your desktop, or that you create a new PuebloLindo directory in which to save it. Once you've selected a directory to save the installer program, click Save.
4. Allow the installer program to download. On a computer with a direct connection to the Internet, this should take roughly two minutes. On a modem, this can take 20-30 minutes, depending on modem speed and net traffic.
5. Find the directory in which you saved the installer program file in. Close all programs that you might have running and double-click on the icon named "pueblo.exe"
6. Follow instructions as the program installs. The Pueblo client software will be installed onto your hard drive in a new directory you can choose. You will then be able to open the Pueblo client software from the Program Manager (Windows 3.1) or the Start Menu(Windows 95).
Note: Should you have difficulty downloading the client from the site in 1. above, you can download it from the Chaco website: http://www.chaco.com
1. Once you arrive at www.chaco.com click on the words, Get the
Pueblo
2.01 executable
2. Follow the instructions above to save the file and install it.
Once you have downloaded and executed the Pueblo client, you must do the following to enter PuebloLindo:
1.Open the Pueblo window and click on "Edit your personal list".
2. Click on the "Add" button, then fill in this information in
the "World
Information" window:

5. Encuentre el directorio donde guardó el programa instalador. Cierre todo los programas que puedan estar en uso y oprima dos veces el ícono llamado "pueblo.exe".
6. Siga las instrucciones a medida que se instala el programa. El

cliente Pueblo será instalado en su disco duro
en un directorio nuevo de
su elección. Luego podrá abrir el software desde el

Pueblo del Administrador del
programa (Windows 3.1) o
desde el Menú de inicio (Windows 95).

Do the following to connect your browser to the Pueblo client:
In Pueblo client, top toolbar:
Edit
Preferences
Apps tab
Web Browser (button): should show either Iexplore.exe or
netscape.exe
If it doesn't, click on button and click on folders, probably starting
with C: Program Files, until you get to the executable program for your
preferred browser (will look like the icon for that program).
Finally, hit Okay button. If changes don't take effect,
quit out of PuebloLindo and close the Pueblo client. Then launch
Pueblo again, get back into PuebloLindo, and see how easy to read it
is!
Trouble connecting from school (firewalls)
If you are having trouble connecting to PuebloLindo after
you’ve loaded
the client onto a machine at your school, talk with the network
administrator
at the school. Ask this person what the SOCKS proxy and port is.
Then, with the Pueblo client open, go to Edit - Preferences - Proxies
....
then click on "Use the following proxies".
Fill in the proxy and port in there, and you should be able to get
around the firewall.

To make things happen, you have to type a "command" at the beginning of the line in the text entry box at the bottom of the screen. These commands are often followed by other words.
When you see a word or symbol (such as a quotation mark), you type it exactly as shown. When you see a word inside brackets <word>, you must supply the information. Example: <persona> means you have to put someone's name there, but don't actually type the brackets. See examples below.

to see who is connected, how long they've been inactive, and where
they're located in PuebloLindo.

to talk to anyone anywhere within PuebloLindo. Example: enviar

to talk to someone who's in the same room. Just type the quotation
marks and whatever you want to say. No need to close the quotes.

to look at the room you're in at any time. The room description will

yourself.
Resize the window in which a photo and/or text description will appear,
and scroll if necessary.

You can describe yourself (in Spanish, please!) once you have a permanent character.

pegar
to paste lines of text into the text screen.
1. Copy what you want to paste
2. Type the command "pegar" and hit "enter
3. Paste in what you copied and hit "enter"
4. Type a period and hit "enter" again.
Everyone in the room will see what you've pasted in.
Once you have connected, you will see the large text screen and, floating somewhere (possibly at the very bottom of the screen) two small windows. One will be the "Contenido del cuarto" and the other will be "Cuarto." Move and resize these windows however you like.
To close any small window, click on the small red word, "cerrar," in the lower left corner. To see these two windows again, place the cursor in the lower text editing window (along the bottom of the large text screen) and type: mira .
Read the information you find in the "Cuarto" window of the first room. Make sure your sound system is on and set to a volume that will make it possible for you to hear music and words (but not get blasted when it first downloads!).
Green words will give you translations and audio (in a floating window) for many of the most commonly used words. Blue exit words will move you in the direction they indicate, and the little red "cerrar" will close the window .
cambiar ventanas
This command allows you to display all information in the text window
instead of in the small windows. In the text window, it will scroll
away
instead of remaining constant as it does in a separate window. The
command
is: cambiar ventanas. Type it again to get the separate windows
back
again.
In each room you have three choices for navigation (moving from place to place):
1. click on an exit name (usually norte, sur, este, and/or oeste).
2. type an exit name in the text editing window
3. click on arrows in the photo (if there is a photo for that room)
When you type mira, you'll see a photo and/or a text description of the room you're in. Scroll down if necessary.
If you go oeste from the Entrada, you'll end up at the taxi. Keep clicking on the photos to move forward (if you see an arrow, click on it).
Navigation commands:
juntarme [con] <persona> - to join someone in a different part of PuebloLindo (the "con" is not necessary).
seguir a <persona> - to follow someone as they move through PuebloLindo
sigue a <persona> - same as seguir a <persona>
mapa - to see where you've been in PuebloLindo. This is only a very rough map.
For English language keyboards:
To place an accent over a vowel, type an apostrophe (') first, then
the vowel.
For ñ, type the tilde (~) and then the letter "n".
When you hit "enter" and your line of text shows up in the large text window, you'll see that the accent is now over the letter.
To get the upside-down question mark and exclamation point (¿ and ¡ ) type the equals (=) sign followed by the ? or the !.
For Spanish language keyboards: Usual methods for accenting will work in PuebloLindo.
You can click on any green word in Spanish to get a dictionary
definition
(in a floating window) and the audio for many of the most commonly used
words. If you want to know how to say something in Spanish,
type the word "define" followed by the word in English for which you'd
like to see the Spanish.
Example: define desk
The first time you walk into the Plaza Mayor, a music file will load onto your machine. This is a small (547K), low-quality file.
If you would like the somewhat larger and better-sounding file (mpeg 972K), type: cambiar calidad. Then exit from and reconnect to PuebloLindo. When you walk into the Plaza Mayor this time, the higher-quality music file will load.
Once either of these files is loaded the first time, it will not have to be loaded again and you will automatically hear music in the Plaza Mayor.
Type: "cambiar ambiente" to turn it on or off.
You can type just one or two words to see how typical actions are described in Spanish. Without using quotation marks, try out these "verbos sociales," with or without a name following the word.
Examples: saludo <persona> or simply saltitos
saludo

Use the "emote" command (a colon : ) followed by the entire URL, starting with http:// .
Example:
:http://pueblolindo.heinle.com
When you hit "enter," the URL will show up in blue for everyone in the room to see. It can then be clicked on and the website will show up in the browser that you have linked to the Pueblo client.
If your browser is not yet linked, you will be prompted to indicate which browser to use.
cambiar ambiente - works like a toggle switch to turn ambient music or sounds on or off
clave - to change your password. Follow the instructions that show up on the screen
describe <persona> or describe <objeto> - to describe oneself or an object
nombrar <objeto> como <nombre> - to name an object
numero <numero> - to display an integer in Spanish words. Example: numero 123 will display 123: ciento veintitrés
Type mandar, hit "enter" and follow instructions to send mail to your PuebloLindo friends within PuebloLindo only.
This is not email and does not connect to the rest of the Internet.
To see a list of your mail messages:
1. type correo and hit "enter:
2. type leer followed by the mail number you want, hit "enter."

Para que ciertas funciones ocurran, es necesario escribir un mandato al principio de la línea, en la caja de texto, localizada en la parte inferior de la pantalla. Estos mandatos son generalmente seguidos de otras palabras.
Cuando usted vea una palabra o un símbolo (como un signo de
comillas),
usted tiene que escribirlos tal como aparecen.
Cuando vea una palabra dentro de signos que indican mayor que o menor
que, usted debe proveer la información. Por ejemplo:
<persona>
significa que usted debe poner el nombre de una persona entre los

Una vez conectado, usted verá una pantalla cubierta de texto, y flotando en algún lugar (posiblemente en la parte inferior de la pantalla), dos ventanas pequeñas. Una ventana será el “Contenido del cuarto”, y la otra será el “Cuarto”. Mueva y cambie el tamaño de estas ventanas a su gusto.
Para cerrar cualquier ventana pequeña, haga clic en la letra
roja que dice “cerrar”, en la parte inferior de la esquina
izquierda.
Para ver la ventana nuevamente, ponga el cursor en la ventana inferior
para editar texto (a lo largo de la parte inferior de la pantalla
grande
de texto) y escriba:

Lea la información que aparece en la ventana “Cuarto”, del primer cuarto. Asegúrese de que el sistema de sonido esté funcionando, y ponga el volumen a un nivel que le permita oir música y palabras (sin que lo deje sordo la primera vez que lo baje).
Las palabras en verde le darán traducciones y audio (en una ventana flotante), para muchas de las palabras comunes. Las palabras en azul son salidas que lo llevarán a la dirección que ellas indiquen, y la palabra “cerrar” en rojo, cerrará la ventana.
cambiar ventanas
Este mandato le deja ver en la ventana de texto toda la
información
que se suele ver en las ventanas peque~nas. En la ventana de texto,
esta
información continuará desplazándose hacia arriba,
en vez de permanecer en un solo punto, como ocurre cuando está
en
una ventana aparte. El mandato es

Escríbalo una vez más para obtener la pantalla original
nuevamente.

En cada cuarto usted tiene tres opciones para navegar (ir de un lado
a otro):
Haciendo clic en el nombre de una salida (generalmente norte, sur,
este, y/u oeste).
Escribiendo el nombre de la salida en la ventana de editar texto.
Haciendo clic en las flechas que aparecen en las fotos (si hay alguna
foto en ese cuarto).
Cuando escriba mira, usted verá una foto y/o una descripción textual del cuarto en que se encuentra. Desplácese hacia abajo si es necesario.
Si usted se dirige al oeste de la Entrada, terminará viajando en taxi. Continúe haciendo clic en las fotos para avanzar (si ve flechas, haga clic en ellas).

Para teclados del idioma inglés:
Para poner un acento sobre una vocal, teclee primero un
apóstrofo
(') luego la vocal.
Para la ñ, teclee la tilde (~), seguida de la letra n.
Cuando aprete “enter” y la línea de texto aparezca en la ventana grande de texto, usted verá que el acento estará sobre la letra.
